About the team Christina Ratcliffe, who is a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and an accredited trainer and qualified teacher, manages the Food Safety Company team. With over twenty-five years of experience advising business about how to manage their food safety issues. She has also trained hundreds of people from all types of businesses in food hygiene.

She has worked at various Councils and in private industry and has considerable experience of dealing with all types of business. In the role she was responsible for awarding the food hygiene rating to business so has indepth knowledge of the scheme and as such is able to give you expert advice on how to achieve five.

She will help you to achieve a level five food hygiene rating.

Christina also has experience of health development and nutrition and has a diploma in nutrition. Consequently can also offer advice on putting healthier choices on your menu, healthy eating workshops and allergen.

Hygiene and safety audits

All our audits are conducted by experienced professional consultants who will provide you with jargon free, expert advice and instruction on how to keep you food safe. They can assist you to improve and maintain your food hygiene rating. To date all business we have worked with have improved their score and achieved a five rating.

Training

We are a CIEH accredited training centre and offer their full range of food safety and health and safety training courses, which are accepted and recognised by EHOs.
All courses can be tailor made to suit the specific operations of your business and held on site, which will help to keep the costs to you down. Training courses are made fun and interactive to ensure maximum learning outcomes.

Ongoing support and advice

Following audits we can give further support including:

      • Incident management.
      • Liaison with the EHOs
      • Risk avoidance advice
      • Food supplier checks
      • Telephone assistance and emergency call out
      • Recommending suitable food hygiene products, equipment and services
      • Advising on new kitchen design or adaptations
      • Kitchen surface swabbing – to determine whether cleaning is effective
      • Arranging food and/or water sampling – to ensure it’s not contaminated

I was introduced to Christina a couple of years ago at a networking event and she became an immediate advocate for Alice charity due to her inherent compassion. In March 2017 we opened our People’s Pantry in Newcastle town centre, a flexible food bank to support local, vulnerable families. We knew that we had an increasing demand for food support but knew nothing about operating a food bank, and the prospect of Environmental Health and Food Hygiene terrified us. So we turned to Christina to support us with our People’s Pantry launch and her coaching, training, guidance and support resulted in the People’s Pantry opening on time, with all the required Environmental Health and Food Hygiene documentation and training completed. When the Pantry was inspected by Environmental Health soon after opening, we were immediately awarded 5 stars.

 

I cannot stress enough how Christina’s support during this launch helped us. Her training and coaching to the team was always delivered with passion and professionalism, but also always with fun and kindness. Christina immediately understood that our volunteers came from very different backgrounds, and needed a lot of reassurance and patience during their training, which Christina has in buckets. Christina also developed a cleaning program from us that is easy for the team to understand and maintain.

 

We have since opened a number of toddler groups and always consult her for guidance on the kitchen facilities within the venues that we hire.

 

We plan to open more People’s Pantry in 2018 and will immediately revert to Christina for her support.

When we purchased our tearoom late September as two individuals who had never had any experience in running a Tearoom myself and Jayne my wife knew that one of the first things we should do is to find someone who could come out and ‘point us in the right direction’ when it comes to dealing with the very important issue of Food Hygiene and how we construct our Food Safety Management Programme.
